Richard’s Conquistador themed Empire army Part 3

Hi all, welcome back to my Conquistador themed Empire army.

My last blog entry was dedicated to my unit of Halberdiers, which make up the back bone to the army. However, this entry is all about the Celestial Hurricanum support unit.

The army itself is a dark looking army with all the armour being matt black. When I was painting the army I was looking for units and models to add the wow factor to the army. I thought that this could be achieved by adding a Celestial Hurricanum. The model enabled me to add a variety of different and vibrant colours to the colour scheme, in the form of the planets. In addition the Hurricanum would also increase the combat effectiveness of my units in game.

The Games Workshop Celestial Hurricanum model is a daunting model to paint, the kit contains so much detail that it made for a time consuming painting process. I wanted to make sure that a fair amount of time was spent on the planetarium section, as it would be one of the central focal points to the army. I painted each section unassembled, thus enabling me to focus on the detail and helped the painting process. Once each section was completed, I started to assemble the model to get an overall impression of the colour scheme. I pretty much followed the Games Workshop scheme apart from replacing the dark blue with black, this helped to tie the model into the theme of the army.
